The 997 Turbo S, offered in coupe and cabriolet form, is the flagship of the 997 generation, powered by a twin-turbo 3.8-litre flat-six with variable-geometry turbochargers. Introduced for 2009 on the 997.2 platform, it added PDK, Sport Chrono and carbon-ceramic brakes as standard on top of Turbo specification. It is regarded as the last of the hydraulic-steering, naturally-aspirated-lineage-engine era Turbos with everyday usability and supercar pace.
It combines all-wheel-drive traction, four-seat practicality and acceleration that rivalled contemporary supercars, in the final generation built on the Mezger-derived crankcase. The 997.2 Turbo S is also the last Turbo to use a hydraulic-assisted steering rack, valued for its feel.
