Ferrari's first series-production mid-engined road car and its answer to the Lamborghini Miura and Countach, built from 1973 to 1976. It uses a 4.4-litre flat-12 with four overhead camshafts, dry-sump lubrication and a Pininfarina body on a tubular steel chassis. It is the foundation of the Berlinetta Boxer line and a landmark in Ferrari's move from front- to mid-engined road cars.
It marked a turning point in Ferrari history, bringing the mid-engine layout and flat-12 configuration of its racing cars to the road in a remarkably pure Pininfarina design. Only 387 were built, and its unstressed, torquey flat-12 delivers a very different character from the later, more refined BB 512.
